Slutwalk Hong Kong 2011

type=digital_archives

On Sunday, 4 December, 2011, the SlutWalk march will be marching from Causeway Bay to Wanchai. People of all different ages, ethnic backgrounds, sexual preferences and gender identities will gather at 3:00 PM to put a stop to victim blaming, especially in cases of sexual assault, rape and sexual harassment. SlutWalk Hong Kong will consist of a walk followed by a rally. Guest speakers – including members of the organising team, representatives from civil society, activists and others – will provide personal testimonies. SlutWalk Hong Kong will be a fun, informative event joining together progressive people from all walks of life.

We will be marching on the same date as SlutWalk Singapore x Kuala Lumpur and SlutWalk Bangalore, and more SlutWalks are interested in protesting on this date in solidarity.

The Slutwalk movement originated in Toronto, Canada, in response to a police offi cer’s shocking statement that “women should avoid dressing like sluts in order to not be victimized.” After successfully holding a Slutwalk in Toronto on 3 April, 2011, the movement has spread around the world, including but not limited to Buenos Aires, LA, London, Berlin and Johannesburg.

We are looking for more SlutWalkers and volunteers for the event and will hold a pre-march poster-making/info party, so we encourage supporters to spread the news to their friends and stay tuned for updates.
