Call for Entries: The Nigah QueerFest'10 in Dehli, India

Now in its fourth year, The Nigah Queer Fest’10 http://www.thequeerfest.com is Dehli‘s annual celebration of queerness. The festival this year brings back the curated film festival and our popular performance component along with a visual arts exhibition, workshops, parties and more.

On July 2nd, 2009, the Delhi High Court ruled that Sec 377 of the Indian Penal Code – an anti-sodomy statute – was unconstitutional and violated the rights and dignity of queer Indians. Since that day, many have said that queer people in India are on their way to becoming “free.”

The PRIDE PARADE took place.
This is roughly the fourth time that there was an attempt to organize it, gather the people, stroll down the streets, so that we can show that lesbians, gays, trans and queer people exist in Serbia. However you classify yourself, whichever group you belong to, you either think you have freedom or you know that you don’t have it.

This year's edition of the City of Women Festival http://www.cityofwomen.org/ will address the topic Between Past & Future. The conceptual background relates to the eponymous book by Hannah Arendt who, back in the 1960s, argued that the condition of human existence, robbed of the traditional, transcendental, religious and moral standards employed to bridge the abyss between past and future, lost direction.

Evie, please could you shortly introduce yourself?
My name is Evie. I have been a feminist for several years and an antiracist, gender and transgender activist before that as well. I've studied computer science before, and right now I'm studying psychology. I'm a member of several feminist groups in Belgium; I'm writing for a magazine and doing activist work in Ghent and I started the De Tweede Sekse feminist blog http://tweedesekse.wordpress.com/ at the end of 2008.

Roman Kuhar: “Narobe” (http://www.narobe.si/ and http://www.narobe.si/menu/arhiv) means “Wrong”. It‘s a kind of subversion which we wanted to have in the title of the magazine. People keep on asking us why the magazine is called Wrong, isn’t it supposed to be a magazine which affirmed with the LGBTIQ community? The fact that we get this kind of feedback is a sign that choosing this name was a good decision. There is also a subtitle – “a magazine where everything is right” – which, in my opinion, makes our message quite clear.
