What is this blog about?

This blog is about feminist poets, comedians, musicians, actors, dancers, cabaret and burlesque artists, and performers of all kinds. I’ll be reviewing and interviewing some of the many wonderful feminist performers out there. I’ll mostly focus on those who are not yet very well-known, because you can find out about the rest elsewhere.

As well as telling you the basics of who performs what and where, I’ll also explore questions such as:

NIKK is a transnational resource- and information centre on gender research and gender equality in the Nordic countries and was established in 1995. Between 2000 and 2011 NIKK magasin was published 3 times a year, two issues in Nordic languages, one issue in English and all focused on a specific theme like violence, prostitution, power, religion, minorities, family politics, climate change etc. It presented new and current themes and perspectives on gender research and gender equality politics in the Nordic countries. Subscription were free and all issues still can be read and also get downloaded as pdf-files.

WebComicKollektiv (Webcomics)

The queer WebComicKollektiv was initiated by German comic artist Anna Heger and since October 2012 publishes every month a new issue based on a specific theme (Oct 2012: Langsamkeit/slowness, Nov 2012: Theory) and linking together contributions by various comic artists. There is a permanent open call for contributions and the collective wants to promote German speaking queer and alternative Comic writing.

Munich based comic artist Anna Heger is publishing her MiniComics (5x5cm²) since 2010. So far 15 MiniComics have been published, some in German and English versions, and all of them can be read on Anna's blog. The comics deal with more personal issues and other stories, (queer-feminist) theory, LGBT and queer issues, critique of gender binarism, stereotypes and heteronormativity, comic writing, etc. In 2012 Anna Heger also initiated the WebComicKollektiv.

Medusa is a zine by Projekt L, a collective/group fighting lookism and also maintaining their info website lookism.info; emphasis on body images and beauty norms / myths, (anti)lookism, representation of women, queer perspectives, sexism, etc. two zines have been published so far, they contain texts published on the lookism.info website as well as comics, illustrations, art works, etc. and can get downloaded from the website
